DWTL is a non-profit organization designed by Tulane medical students, to promote long-term behavioral changes in terms of diet and exercise habits. Our ultimate goal is for each program participant to become as healthy as possible in the least amount of time. In addition, Don't Weight to Lose sets up an environment in which the community and health professionals can relate to each other in order to reach a common goal: To improve the health of New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS' NEEDS

Hurricane Katrina slammed New Orleans and our personal lives on August 29, 2005. Now more than two years later, we are faced with past, present and future obstacles - especially within the healthcare system. With an increase in people without health insurance and a decrease in hospitals, our focus on diet and exercise is now extremely important. Being healthy will help prevent sickness that will reduce our need for hospitals.

Weight management is very important in order for us to remain healthy. Ranked the 7th fattest city in the nation in 2004, New Orleans is no stranger to being unhealthy. If small, daily improvements are made, the risk of many sicknesses associated with being overweight can be drastically reduced!

Don't Weight to Lose offers:

 

1. Biweekly lectures on topics focused on health and wellness

2. Group discussion about challenges and obstacles confronted

3. Body composition analysis

4. Blood pressure screening

5. Cardiovascular screening

6. Counseling session based on each individuals' assessment

7. Nutritional Advice

8. Medication Management Advice

9. Stress Management Advice

10. Home exercise Program with Equipment
